How to be productive

Good morning, I’m Vivienne Joy, Mindset Reset Expert and Business Growth Mentor. I’m here today to talk to you about being effective, about being productive, about getting shit done!

You hear the JFDI – you hear people who have got this mega process in their life where they get stuff done. Like, I’ve watched other people online and think how? How do you have four children, go to the gym for an hour a day, have time to have sex with your partner, cook all these amazing meals, and still take the kids to all the different things they do. It’s like they seem to have more hours in the day than the rest of us. Isn’t it interesting? 

And so you look at the super successful people and think, I’m never gonna have my shit together like that. And actually, what would I have to sacrifice in order to be able to do that. And if you’re thinking and feeling like that, then maybe we need to have a look at what you are doing with your time. But not so much just your time – there are millions of productivity coaches out there who I’m sure are doing a fantastic job with their clients, but we actually need to look at what you’re doing with your thoughts, because the thoughts create the feelings, create behaviour, creates an outcome. Write that down! The thoughts come from the belief, which is why I do what the belief stuff. So the belief creates the thought, creates the behaviour, and feeling. And then of course, creates the end result of the outcome. 

Getting the right outcome of your day

So if you are not getting the outcome from your day that’s going to blow you away or make your business go the way you want it to do, then maybe we need to look at which part of that little structure is not working? Does it come from the belief? Does it come from the thought that maybe could be more powerful or empowering rather than disempowering? Is it then the emotion that goes? Do you think, oh I’ve got a lot to do, and it creates a negative emotion of anxiety rather than ooh, I’ve got a lot to do today? So it could be the way the thought is being perceived by your emotional body, and your emotional body then physically reacts, and then does your physical body say, oh god, I can’t be bothered with that today. Oh, I think I prefer to go and watch Netflix, it’s much easier, much safer. And so then the outcome is not getting stuff done. 

I want you to think about how this works. For some people it’s more often – it happens quite a lot for me, because I kind of know how to do this stuff now – not all the time, I’m not gonna lie. Some days I just think I cannot be arsed and I allow my body to not be arsed. I think I can’t be arsed because my thought process has to be, I’m exhausted, I’m knackered, I worked too hard yesterday, I haven’t done enough relaxation, I haven’t looked after myself, I’ve done too much work. I’ve served too many people, which when you love what you do is really easy to get into because we love that reward. But actually, if I start to think, I’ve done too much, I’m too exhausted, I’m too knackered, that is not the right place for me to be, then thinking, oh, I’m excited about what I’m going to achieve today. Or I’m excited about what I’m going to do today, how can I do more of what I do. So somewhere along that process of belief, right through to the outcome, there’s something somewhere that we can take a closer look at and do a little bit of a reset on to help you to be more productive in the way that you want to be. You might not be superwoman, but you might be the best that you want to be. It may be that you actually want more relaxation in your life and you’re being too productive. 

You don’t always need to be on the go

So we’re talking about productivity. Some people are on the go all the time. They never stop. I have a client like this and I’m like for fuck sake, stop! Your brain needs rest the same as your body does. If you were to run marathons continuously your whole life, then finally your body would just go enough. And the brain is the same. So it could be that you’re on overdrive of productivity and that’s being driven by the fear, flight, fight, or freeze – I’m sure you’ve heard of that. 

So there’s lots of stuff going on. It’s continuous. It’s all day, every day, and it creates your reality. And if something in your reality doesn’t feel quite right, and something’s wrong then we need to go and find it and fix it. And it’s never as bad as you think. You’re not completely broken, you’re not completely messed up, you’re not a bad person, not a bad business owner, I can promise you this. There’s just something somewhere, or a couple of things that are joining up and scheming against you in your unconscious that is based on some stuff you did in your past, and learnt to believe and learnt to honour, that are messing up your business.
